No, not Arnold sending email…

Mailinator is a free server which allows you to have a personal disposable email account.

Ideal for when you need to register on a website to grab something BUT you don’t want to give the site your real address.

See here.

I Shall Not Pass This Way Again December 29, 2005

Posted by Dale in : Quotations , Comments

“I expect to pass through this world but once. Any good thing, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”

Stephen Grellet, 1773-1855
French-born Quaker Minister

Here’s hoping next year will be a better year than this one. *sighhh*

Print Screen Utility, I use PrintKey 2000 December 29, 2005

Posted by Dale in : Printing, Utilities , Comments

When I want to capture a computer screen, I use PrintKey. Version 5.10 is freeware, and you can snaffle a copy here.

Safe to use, I know several large corporations which use it.

The (now) commercial version is available from here.

Thanks goes to this site for reminding me to blog it.

September 2008 update
Do not believe this:
Printkey 2000 will not work with XP, Vista or Windows2003.

It does work, I used PrintKey 2000 regularly through the Longhorn client -> Vista Beta -> Vista SP1 test cycle, and it just worked.

1 year, 1 hour, 3 minutes and 23 seconds later - same location December 22, 2005

Same street, one year later.

The tree has grown so I had to move slightly.

I am not a Gunzel, but the tram is different.

It’s a Z3 Class, number 186.

Whoopee!!!

“If you want to find out about a person, look at how he treats his servants” December 22, 2005

Not sure where I originally saw this, but a google search shows something about “”The Defender of the Moon Princess!”". Never heard of it, I always thought it was an old English saying.

I firmly believe you treat others how you’d like to be treated. If for no other selfish reason then you’ll don’t know where you and they will be in 5 years :-)

Ernie Halter used to have some sage advice on starting out in the music industry. The first couple of points were:
1. Nobody Wants To Work With The A-hole.
2. Stay Connected
3. Be Reliable

Point 1 is a good point to remember.

And by the way, no I’m not part of the music industry. No talent here…

I’m not very talented at anything really apart from IT.

A year ago today, taken very near to where I work, it’s whats known as a Z3 Class tram. I very nearly became a Tram Conductor back in 1987, but I declined the job offer.

I wonder where I would be now if I had said yes?

As Kolchak once said, in an episode of Night Stalker, and they were:
anyone who is paid by the hour, and an office-building elevator.

I’d add a third to that, people using those Kodak “”Instant Print”" kiosk photo printers.

I only wanted a couple of photos done, but Monkey Boy in front of me wanted 11 of the things, WITH borders around the edges. Half an hour later… …

The downside of making things easier to use, is that it tempts clowns to do so.

“Give me a light that I may go forth into the unknown.” December 19, 2005

As we come up to the end of the year thought I’d start off with a favorite quotation:

I said to the man at the gate of the year, “Give me a light that I may go forth into the unknown.”
And the man replied,” Put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than a light, safer than a known way.”
