Imagine this …
You’re an IT Security Manager for a large company. You organise an audit of IT Security.
The external auditors identify many issues*, and you ask a support team for feedback on one issue.
When the support team asks for further details, do you:
- say no, as it’s the whole document is security-in-confidence.
- for the particular issue, extract the details out of the report, and provide that extract to the support team.
- provide a link to the whole security audit report, which details every security flaw found throughout the whole organisation.
If you picked "3", you too can have a job as an "Information Warrior".
* – it’s the nature of external security auditors to find every flaw. Some would say it would be to justify their exorbitant fees. Poor security auditors seem to just run though the Microsoft Security Checklists, and leave it at that.
… Dale has been involved in desktop security audits since Windows 95/NT4, and its all been a blur.

What it takes to do a job will not be learned from management courses. It is principally a matter of experience, the proper attitude, and common sense-none of which can be taught in a classroom . . . Human experience shows that people, not organizations or management systems, get things done.

Has update, but not going to release it to the web.
I wrote back in December 2008, that the HP Universal Print Driver (UPD):
Oh, and UPD 4.7.0 has issues with Citrix. Namely CPU spiking and StressPrinters test issues. HP know this and acknowledge it. The fix (UPD 4.7.2) will be out in March 2009.
- Still a pack of cheap bastards
And so it has appeared. But only if you ask HP directly, it’s not available on the website.
If you are using a HP Universal Print Driver with any of the following:
- 32-bit Vista.
- Crystal Reports.
- a non-admin user.
- Citrix
- a HP 5000 series printer
then you’ll be wanting UPD 4.7.2, which is available only via request from HP.

I’ll be having the one with the missing heart beat then.
Amazing what they can do with technology. Today I got to see my heart doing the missing beat thing. Once a minute, my heart seemed to pause. It may be nothing. The cardiologist should let me know the size of the house extension he wants in a few days.

Every man + dog wants a BlackBerry urgently. How we managed natural disasters without them, I don’t really know.
Late Friday, “Ring Ring”.
Customer needs a BlackBerry Storm urgently.
So we start the process. Our helpful mail administrator points out “But they’re already got one”.
Humph.
Back to the support guy; “They’re already got one”
‘Oh’
“I suspect they actually want to swap their current BlackBerry for a nice shiny new BlackBerry Storm. And they’re using the natural disaster as an excuse”.
‘Ah’
“Go find out and call me back.”
Nothing further heard. Wrote a Concern Yourself Always for the Helpdesk ticket, and told the mail administrator to stand down.

Thematic has issues with image placement it seems. *sigh*
Another week, another theme.
Atahualpa seems much more flexible, and seems to have greater community. So here’s to Atahualpa.
We’ll see Chucky.
