It’s been a while since I last published the plugin list used here, so it’s time for an update:
What I’m using now:
All in One SEO Pack
I still use this on the technical posts, as my efforts to use Windows Live Writer to do this, didn’t work. The problem is that you can’t manipulate html directly in Live Writer.
Dagon Design Sitemap Generator
This sitemap generator creates the Category page.
I use the Category page to: a) find something quickly, and b) see if I’ve miscategorised something.
This plugin works and rarely has an update to it. That’s a good thing, as it means it’s stable.
ECHO by JS-Kit
The replacement commenting plugin I’ve mentioned previously.
Future Calendar
In the WordPress “Posts” option, this plugin tells me what days in the future already has posts. I try and post a few days into the future.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics is the most honest way I’ve got to measure site visits. I tried using AWstats, and you can read about that here: How do I measure thee- … or site stats for dummies.
Google XML Sitemaps
XML Sitemaps make things far easier for search engines (Google, Yahoo, Microsoft Live) to check for blog updates.
Another plugin which rarely needs updates. You can see the XML sitemap for Wisefaq here.
This Day
Adds a “On this day” link to the end of a blog post.
![]()
WordPress Database Backup
Backup of the Wisefaq blog database. Backups are always a good idea, particularly when your WordPress site is hacked.
WordPress Mobile Edition
Creates a “lite” version of the blog, just for mobile devices, such as BlackBerry’s and Windows Mobile.
I blogged about it here.
WP Super Cache
Caching plugin for WordPress. This should improve page loading speeds for you.
Yet Another Related Posts Plugin
Generates a list of other posts, which are similar to this post.

No longer using:
Akismet
The Akismet comment-spam checker. I would still strongly recommend this to anyone. I’m no using it as the ECHO commenting plugin has this as a feature.
DISQUS Comment System
I’m trying ECHO by JS-KIT. Disqus might make a return someday, when they fix commenting on closed posts.

Hi! Nice list but here’s one to suggest: The Wapple Architect Mobile Plugin for WordPress. It mobilizes your blog not just to blackberry’s and windows mobiles, but to each and every device in the world. From old phones that require WML, to new swanky iPhones – they are all covered! Images are also dynamically resized on the fly too so that they always fit the handset perfectly!
Version 1.5 has just been released and it’d be great to hear what you thought – the home page can be found here:http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wapple-architect/
Thanks,
Rich
On Windows Phone 6.5 IE, BlackBerry 8800 Browser & Opera Mini 4.2 (both platforms)
WAPL ERROR: Entity ‘ndash’ not defined.
Think I’ll be sticking with WordPress Mobile Edition.
Hi Dale,
Problem fixed! The latest version (1.5.6) has support for all characters such as the ndash.
If you fancy another go, I’d be more than happy to help!
