I needed an IT problem fixed at a remote site, so I asked the responsible IT guy*, “Are you the man?”.
‘What do you mean?’
“You’re the IT guy for Tennant Creek, so can you fix the problem?”
“So you are the man then, go fix it.”
If he only saw this IBM advertisement first
(but this happened before Youtube existed, so it might have been a bit difficult)
I like the above YouTube video for two reasons:
- it illustrates the “Are you the man?” very well.
- the perky blonde asking “Can I be the man?”, would leave me speechless as well.
* I use guy in the sexless/genderless sense. It’s easier than writing s/he, and less condescending than “Boys & Girls”.
