The Windows Compressed (zipped) Folder Feature

was first introduced in Windows XP.

Limitations of the feature

  • No AES Encryption(1)
  • No password support(1)
  • No API support(1)
  • Does not work well with Offline Offline Folders(4)
With Offline Folders, if the folder is offline that you are creating the .Zip in, you’ll get an error.
  • Does not use the Windows Shell Icon Handler(2)
