Disk Wiping Test: Active@ Killdisk Free

For the price (free), I like it.  It costs $39.95 US for the full version.

Version tested: Active@ KILLDISK for DOS v.4.1 Build: 2393

Active Killdisk USB Creation Plus points:

  • it’s free!
  • there is a USB/floppy disk creator which takes the pain out creating your “kill” disk.
  • fast: 1hr 8min 5sec

Things I didn’t like:

  • the free version only does 1 pass zeros wipe.
For the paranoid out there, that won’t be good enough.
For the rest of us, that’s fine.

3 free, and 14 non-free, hard disk wiping programs.

This is an update on my “Wiping your hard disk, so other people can’t get data off it post”, which WordPress and Windows Live writer just erased on me.  Ironic!

One reader asked what I’ve used.  Well those programs would be: BCWipePD, Darik’s Boot and Nuke and Active@ KillDisk Professional.  Darik’s Boot and Nuke was my choice, the other two have been used by my various employers.
